NEOM reveals the surreal new destination... It will span 120 kilometers along the Gulf of Aqaba. The $500 billion ‘city of the future’ has announced NEOM Magna, a brand-new coastal destination comprised of a whopping 12 other destinations. The 120-kilometer stretch will be home to other NEOM locations like fitness-focused Gidori, beach club Xaynor, and wellbeing-first Elanan. Located along the Gulf of Aqaba, the destinations are all about conservation and preservation while offering luxury living and tourism. As part of Saudi Vision 2030, the exclusive area will focus on introducing advanced technology, world-class architecture, and ultra-modern amenities to set a new global standard in luxury sustainability. A luxury lifestyle coastal destination, Magna is all about protecting and restoring the natural surroundings of its 12 destinations through rewilding and regreening. The location is powered by renewable energy, it will also plant about 1.5 million new trees and plants, about 95 percent of the destination’s land will be protected for nature and the other five percent will be used for development. The sprawling space has been designed to complement its surroundings and coastal destination. It will offer premium hotels and residences, global flavors at its dining options, signature stores, and not one but three marinas. NEOM Magna offers over 2,500 residences, 15 luxe hotels (1,600 keys), three marina bays, and a 500-student-ultra-exclusive boarding school. Additional cuisine from around the globe at 73 dining destinations and shop at luxury boutiques from 102 retail properties, with multiple galleries and studios highlighting different kinds of art...

Some time ago I wrote my thoughts about the ambition and grandeur of the NEOM mega-project in the Arabian desert. The Line especially, although ambitious, lacked the practicality and the organic development often found in the most successful cities of the world. It seems like these shortcomings have come to a head as the authorities have scaled back the project by 80%. Interesting read with your morning coffee ☕ Saudi Arabia’s NEOM has unveiled a new progress video showing rapid development being made on the mega business and tourism project, with more than 140,000 construction workers developing key regions across the futuristic site. Key regions - THE LINE, Oxagon, Sindalah and Trojena – are rapidly gathering pace, according to the footage unveiled in the video. One of Bill Gates’ investment firms has spent $80 million to kickstart the development of a brand-new "smart community" in the far West Valley in Arizona. Billionaire Marc Lore plans to build the inclusive, Utopian desert city Telosa. A group of tech billionaires and others is hoping to get residents in Northern California's Solano County to approve what backers hope amounts to a new city. The project is called California Forever, and it aims to turn farmland into a medium density city that could grow to up to 400,000 residents in the future. I still have a belief that thru community and commerce we will see a seismic shift in how humans work, play, communicate and play. Saudi Arabia continues to redefine innovation with the construction of a $5bn man-made lake in the Trojena mountain resort, part of the $1.5tn NEOM megaproject. Covering 1.5 square kilometers, the lake is designed with sustainability in mind, featuring botanical islands, an Enchanted Forest, and a cutting-edge underwater tunnel connecting to nearby attractions. Italian firm Webuild leads the charge with a £3.7bn contract, backed by a workforce of over 10,000 personnel. The project also supports Saudi Vision 2030, diversifying the Kingdom’s economy while creating a year-round tourism hub. Trojena will feature over 22 miles of ski slopes, watersports, a mountainside amphitheater, and more, with completion set for 2026. 700,000 tourists are expected annually by 2030. Saudi Arabia's ambitious $500 billion Neom linear city project "The Line", which was originally planned to be stretched for 170 kilometres, is set to be scaled down by 98.6%, according to The Cradle. Bloomberg reported that instead of the original plan to cover an area of 170 kilometres and accomodate 1.5 million people, the project will now only span 2.4 kilometres with a population of only 30,000 residents, The Line was part of Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman's (MBS) 2030 vision to tackle the challenges of urban living and promote alternative ways of life. However, reports suggest that he has now decided to downsize the mega-project due to financial constraints.
